Biography of the artist

Pat Tinsley’s work is both figurative and abstract and she says she is still very much on a journey each time a new piece is begun. She uses inks, vibrant water colour, oils and acrylic to create lively sketches and paintings on a variety of surfaces.

Using a range of media she seeks to recreate expressive marks and textures.
She uses a variety of materials and tools to make these marks. Her hands are as likely a tool as any other and can be found scraping away at her work to reveal unique marks and colour combinations.

Drawing with colour and line has always played an important part in Pat’s life and she developed an early interest in Art and Design from copying theatrical programmes and record labels.
Pat studied at Middlesex University in Hertfordshire, achieving a B Ed Hons in Art & Design and Education. Many of the techniques Pat uses now were honed working with primary school children  and arose through her willingness to encourage exploration and development of ideas and materials.  Paint, clay, fabrics and found objects provided a whole range of experiences.  Pat later went on to teach Art in the Primary School to trainee teachers and in turn she still enjoys sharing her work and ideas with others.

Pat now lives in Norfolk, and everyday influences on her life are reflected in her work.
She has access to beautiful Long’s Wood and enjoys woodland and countryside walks with her two dogs. Relaxing moments on the broads provide much sketchbook material and inspiration.”

Her work is a response to life in Norfolk and is a culmination of observation and an intuitive response to colour and form. Much of Pat’s work is created en plein air and now for health reasons she is working in water mixable oil, a safer alternative to traditional oils.
She makes no apology for her eclectic approach. She says “this is my time and I aim to make the most of it!  I am always learning and if I can give pleasure to others through my work then so be it.”
